No. 1 on Japan’s TikTok Shop: Overseas Growth Starts Showing Up in the Numbers
Mommy Care has grown at a remarkable pace.
According to data related to its operator, Olive International, Mommy Care’s sales increased from approximately 3 billion won in 2023 to 32 billion won in 2024 and around 64 billion won last year.
That represents more than a twentyfold increase in just two years.
Its sales target for this year is reportedly around 128 billion won.
One of Mommy Care’s flagship products is V-SERA, a home beauty device incorporating EMS technology.
The next challenge, however, has been overseas expansion.
While Mommy Care has grown rapidly in South Korea, previous domestic analysis has pointed to its relatively small overseas sales contribution as a key issue for its next stage of growth.
Recent Japanese TikTok Shop data provides the first signs that this may be changing.
According to Japanese TikTok Shop analytics, V-SERA ranked No. 1 in sales across all product categories during the week of September 14-20.
After subsequent data adjustments, estimated sales for that period stood at approximately 16.88 million yen.
On September 17 alone, the product ranked second overall, generating estimated sales of about 3.49 million yen from 415 units.
For the full month of September, V-SERA ranked sixth overall with estimated gross merchandise value of 33.75 million yen and 3,998 units sold.
The significance lies not simply in the product entering Japan, but in actual consumer purchasing data beginning to emerge.
285 Creators Became Sales Channels: The TikTok Model Behind Mommy Care’s Japanese Growth
Another notable aspect of Mommy Care’s performance in Japan is who is actually selling the product.
During September, 285 TikTok creators participated in selling V-SERA, according to the monthly dataset.
This differs from conventional e-commerce, where a company advertises a product and consumers then visit an online store to make a purchase.
Instead, numerous creators introduce the product through videos and livestreams, allowing purchases to take place directly through the content.
Analysis of shorter periods also suggests that more than half of V-SERA’s sales were generated through livestream commerce.
On September 17, for example, approximately 63% of estimated sales came from livestreams, with the remaining 37% generated through video content.
Under this model, hundreds of creators can effectively function as individual sales channels without the company having to build stores or a large direct sales force across Japan.
That makes Mommy Care’s September performance more significant than simply having a single hit product.
Beauty devices, unlike conventional cosmetics, often require consumers to understand how the product works and how it is used before making a purchase.
TikTok’s video and livestream format may therefore be particularly well suited to demonstrating beauty devices.
However, the available data is not sufficient to conclude that Mommy Care has secured a lasting market share in Japan. It remains to be seen whether September’s strong rankings were driven by temporary promotional activity or can develop into sustained growth.
From 3 Billion to 64 Billion Won: Overseas Markets Are the Next Test
Olive International, which operates Mommy Care, is a multi-brand K-beauty company whose portfolio includes Sungboon Editor, Milk Touch and Mommy Care.
Each brand has developed strengths in different markets. Sungboon Editor has been expanding overseas, including in the United States, while Milk Touch has built recognition in Japan. Mommy Care is now accelerating its own international expansion, particularly in Japan.
The Mommy Care case also illustrates how K-beauty’s overseas sales model is changing.
Traditionally, international expansion centered on signing local distributors or entering department stores and drugstore chains.
Social-commerce platforms such as TikTok Shop now provide another route. Brands can test consumer demand directly while effectively turning hundreds of local creators into a distributed sales network.
The next question is whether Mommy Care, which grew from roughly 3 billion won in annual sales to 64 billion won in just two years, can reproduce that growth overseas.
More important than one strong month will be whether the product remains near the top of Japan’s TikTok Shop rankings in October and November.
Whether its weekly No. 1 ranking becomes a one-off result or develops into a new overseas distribution model for Korean beauty devices is now the key point to watch.
