7일 알보텍 등에 따르면 양사는 6일(현지시간) 미국 기반 바이오의약품 생산 확대를 위한 장기 전략적 제조 파트너십을 체결했다고 발표했다.
계약에 따라 롯데바이오로직스는 미국 뉴욕주 시러큐스 바이오캠퍼스에서 알보텍의 복수 항체 바이오시밀러 제품에 사용되는 원료의약품을 생산해 글로벌 시장에 공급할 예정이다.
양사는 향후 협력 범위를 추가로 확대할 가능성도 열어뒀다.
계약금액과 개별 바이오시밀러 제품명은 공개되지 않았다.
이번 계약은 롯데바이오로직스가 미국에 확보한 생산시설을 활용해 글로벌 바이오시밀러 기업의 장기 생산망에 진입했다는 점에서 주목된다.
알보텍은 이번 생산망 확대로 향후 10년간 자사의 바이오시밀러 파이프라인 수요에 대응할 충분한 생산능력을 확보하게 될 것이라고 밝혔다.

LOTTE Biologics will manufacture multiple antibody biosimilar products for Iceland-based biosimilar specialist Alvotech in the United States under a long-term strategic manufacturing agreement.
Alvotech and LOTTE Biologics announced on October 6 local time that they had entered into a long-term strategic manufacturing partnership aimed at expanding U.S.-based production capacity.
Under the agreement, LOTTE Biologics will manufacture drug substance for multiple antibody biosimilar products at its Syracuse facility in New York for global supply.
The two companies have also left open the possibility of expanding the scope of their collaboration over time.
Financial terms and the individual biosimilar products covered by the agreement were not disclosed.
The agreement is notable because it places LOTTE Biologics’ U.S. manufacturing operation within the long-term production network of a global biosimilar developer.
Alvotech said its expanded global manufacturing network would provide sufficient capacity to meet demand for its pipeline over the next ten years.

공정개발과 품질관리 역량도 현장에 갖추고 있으며 상업용 바이오의약품 생산 경험을 보유하고 있다.
특히 시러큐스 공장은 최근 미국 식품의약국(FDA)의 예고 없는 현장 실사를 지적사항 없이 통과했다.
알보텍은 이번 계약을 통해 미국 기반 생산거점을 추가하면서 기존 자체 생산시설 및 다른 제조 파트너들과 함께 글로벌 공급망의 유연성을 높일 계획이다.

Alvotech is a global biotechnology company specializing in the development and manufacture of biosimilar medicines.
The company has developed and commercialized biosimilars across therapeutic areas including immunology, ophthalmology and bone disease, while continuing to expand its development pipeline.
The significance of the latest agreement is that Alvotech selected LOTTE Biologics’ Syracuse facility as part of its expansion of U.S.-based manufacturing capacity.
LOTTE Biologics’ Syracuse Bio Campus has 40,000 liters of bioreactor capacity.
The site also has on-site process development and quality-control capabilities and an established track record in commercial biologics manufacturing.
The Syracuse operation recently completed an unannounced inspection by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration with zero observations.
Through the agreement, Alvotech will add U.S.-based manufacturing capacity alongside its own facilities and existing manufacturing partnerships, increasing flexibility across its global supply network.
Alvotech CEO Lisa Graver said the expansion of the company’s global manufacturing network would provide sufficient capacity to meet demand for its pipeline for the next ten years.

이번 계약에서 눈에 띄는 대목은 생산 대상이 단일 제품이 아니라 ‘복수의 항체 바이오시밀러 제품’이라는 점이다.
알보텍은 현재 휴미라 바이오시밀러를 비롯해 스텔라라, 프롤리아·엑스지바, 심퍼니, 아일리아 등의 바이오시밀러 포트폴리오를 구축하고 있다.
또 키트루다와 듀피젠트, 트렘피어 등 주요 바이오의약품을 대상으로 한 후속 바이오시밀러 후보도 개발하고 있다.
다만 알보텍과 롯데바이오로직스는 이번 계약에 포함된 구체적인 제품명을 공개하지 않았다.
따라서 현재 공개된 알보텍의 바이오시밀러 파이프라인 가운데 특정 제품을 롯데바이오로직스가 생산할 것이라고 단정할 근거는 없다.
계약금액 역시 공개되지 않았다.
상업 공급이 바로 시작되는 것도 아니다. 양사는 기술이전과 제조 적격성 평가를 성공적으로 완료하고 필요한 규제당국 승인을 받아야 한다고 밝혔다.
그럼에도 단일 임상용 생산이 아니라 복수 바이오시밀러를 대상으로 한 장기 전략적 제조계약이라는 점에서 시러큐스 공장의 고객 기반 확대라는 의미가 있다.
Long-Term Deal Covers Multiple Products, But Individual Biosimilars Remain Undisclosed
A notable aspect of the agreement is that it covers multiple antibody biosimilar products rather than a single product.
Alvotech has built a portfolio that includes biosimilars to Humira, Stelara, Prolia and Xgeva, Simponi and Eylea.
The company is also developing additional biosimilar candidates referencing major biologic medicines including Keytruda, Dupixent and Tremfya.
However, Alvotech and LOTTE Biologics did not disclose which individual products are covered by the manufacturing agreement.
There is therefore no confirmed basis for linking any particular product in Alvotech’s publicly disclosed pipeline to manufacturing at LOTTE Biologics’ Syracuse facility.
Financial terms were also not disclosed.
Commercial supply will not begin automatically. The companies said it will be subject to successful technology transfer, manufacturing qualification and applicable regulatory approvals.
Even so, the agreement is significant for the Syracuse facility because it is a long-term strategic manufacturing partnership covering multiple biosimilars rather than a one-off clinical manufacturing project.

제임스 박 롯데바이오로직스 대표는 알보텍의 바이오시밀러 개발 전문성과 롯데바이오로직스의 제조역량을 결합하면 강력한 협력 기반을 만들 수 있다고 밝혔다.
이어 시러큐스 운영과 송도 바이오캠퍼스 구축을 통해 협력 확대에 따라 유연한 듀얼사이트 생산 지원을 제공하겠다고 설명했다.
알보텍 입장에서도 미국 생산능력을 추가로 확보하면 특정 생산거점에 대한 의존도를 낮추고 향후 신제품 출시와 글로벌 수요 증가에 보다 유연하게 대응할 수 있다.
롯데바이오로직스 입장에서는 시러큐스 공장이 단순히 인수한 미국 생산시설을 넘어 글로벌 바이오시밀러 기업의 장기 공급망으로 들어간다는 의미가 있다.
향후 관전 포인트는 기술이전과 규제 승인 이후 실제 상업생산이 언제 시작되는지, 그리고 양사가 언급한 ‘추가 협력’이 송도 바이오캠퍼스까지 확대되는지 여부다.
From Syracuse to Songdo: LOTTE Biologics Expands Its Dual-Site Strategy
The agreement also aligns with LOTTE Biologics’ strategy of connecting its existing U.S. manufacturing operation in Syracuse with its expanding manufacturing base in Songdo, South Korea.
LOTTE Biologics is leveraging Syracuse’s established commercial manufacturing experience while building large-scale biologics manufacturing capacity in Songdo.
LOTTE Biologics CEO James Park said Alvotech’s expertise in biosimilar development and LOTTE Biologics’ manufacturing capabilities create a strong foundation for the partnership.
He added that, with its Syracuse operations and the completion of its Songdo Bio Campus, LOTTE Biologics intends to provide flexible dual-site manufacturing support as the partnership expands.
For Alvotech, additional U.S. capacity can increase manufacturing flexibility as the company scales its portfolio and prepares for future product launches.
For LOTTE Biologics, the agreement represents another step in positioning Syracuse not simply as an acquired U.S. manufacturing site but as part of the long-term supply network of a global biosimilar developer.
The next points to watch will be when commercial production begins following technology transfer and regulatory approvals, and whether the companies’ stated potential for broader collaboration ultimately extends to LOTTE Biologics’ Songdo Bio Campus.
