[Mir’s Global Radar] LG Electronics, LG CNS Discuss 160-Hectare Industrial Park in Uzbekistan…$100 Million FDI Planned for First Phase

Officials from LG Electronics and LG CNS have held discussions in Uzbekistan over a proposed 160-hectare industrial technopark, with the local government planning to attract $100 million in foreign direct investment for the project's first phase.

The talks went beyond a general investment-promotion meeting, with LG representatives visiting the proposed site and reviewing infrastructure including electricity, gas, water and potential production facility layouts.

According to the Ohangaron local government in Uzbekistan, an LG Group delegation visited the area on October 2 and discussed the establishment of a modern industrial technopark with local officials.

The local government presented a 160-hectare site for the project. During the visit, the two sides reviewed electricity, natural gas and water supplies, road and transport infrastructure, and potential locations for production facilities.

Ohangaron authorities said the first phase of the technopark is planned to attract $100 million in foreign direct investment.

However, the $100 million figure should not currently be interpreted as a confirmed investment commitment by LG Electronics or LG CNS. It represents the local government's FDI target for the first phase of the project.

Business development officials from LG Electronics and LG CNS participated in the discussions.

Notably, the delegation included personnel associated with LG Electronics' One LG Solution initiative for integrated B2B solutions, drawing attention to whether the project will advance into a more concrete business plan.

LG Inspects 160-Hectare Site and Reviews Infrastructure

One notable aspect of the project is that discussions extended beyond a conventional investment-promotion meeting.

According to information released by the Ohangaron local government, the LG delegation visited the proposed industrial technopark site directly.

Local authorities presented a 160-hectare site, while the two sides examined industrial infrastructure and conditions for establishing manufacturing facilities.

The review covered electricity, natural gas and water supplies as well as road and transport infrastructure.

Potential locations for production facilities were also discussed.

The Ohangaron government plans to develop a modern industrial technopark aimed at creating new manufacturing capacity and introducing advanced technologies.

The project is also intended to promote the use of local raw materials, strengthen industrial cooperation among companies and expand the production and export of higher-value products.

If implemented, the project could potentially develop into an industrial hub combining multiple manufacturing and technology functions rather than a single standalone plant.

However, currently available information does not specify the products to be manufactured, participating tenants, or construction and operation schedules.

LG Electronics, LG CNS Business Development Officials Join Visit

Officials from both LG Electronics and LG CNS participated in the site visit.

The list released by the Ohangaron local government included LG Electronics director Justin Kim, LG Electronics official Seunghan Baek and LG CNS official Jisung Song.

Sungchul Lee, identified by the local government as the president of an LG Electronics subsidiary, was also listed as part of the delegation.

Justin Kim is particularly noteworthy. During a visit to LG Electronics headquarters in May, an Uzbek economic organization identified him as the head of One LG Solution Business.

The One LG approach is designed to provide corporate customers with integrated combinations of technologies, products and services from across LG affiliates rather than simply selling individual products.

The joint presence of LG Electronics and LG CNS officials at the proposed industrial park site therefore raises the possibility that discussions could develop beyond conventional consumer electronics manufacturing or sales.

However, the specific business structure has not been disclosed, including whether LG would directly participate in developing the technopark, establish a manufacturing facility, or provide technology and infrastructure solutions.

At this stage, what can be confirmed is that LG Electronics and LG CNS officials discussed the project and inspected the proposed site.

$100 Million FDI Target for First Phase, But Not Yet an LG Investment Commitment

The figure requiring the greatest caution in this project is $100 million.

The Ohangaron local government said it plans to attract $100 million in foreign direct investment during the first phase of the industrial technopark.

The original wording likewise refers to a plan to attract FDI totaling $100 million.

There is therefore no basis at this stage for stating that LG itself has committed to investing $100 million in Uzbekistan.

LG's potential investment, its scale and the company's exact participation structure remain subject to further discussions.

Nevertheless, the identification of a specific 160-hectare site and the LG Electronics and LG CNS delegation's review of infrastructure and potential production facility locations suggest that discussions have moved beyond an initial investment-promotion pitch toward a more detailed evaluation stage.

The key question will be how LG ultimately participates.

It remains unclear whether LG will establish manufacturing facilities directly, participate in smart industrial park or digital infrastructure development using LG CNS capabilities, or provide integrated solutions involving multiple LG affiliates.

Specific products, investment amounts and project schedules have also not been disclosed.

What can currently be confirmed is that the Ohangaron government is pursuing a 160-hectare industrial technopark with a first-phase FDI target of $100 million and that LG Electronics and LG CNS officials have discussed and inspected the project on site.

The development will be worth watching as Korean companies increasingly explore opportunities in Central Asia beyond product exports and individual factories, potentially expanding into industrial infrastructure and integrated B2B solutions.
