말레이시아 국방부가 주목한 한국 방산 기업의 핵심기술 도입현황 3가지를 정리해 드립니다.

Malaysia has decided to enhance its national defence capabilities through advanced technology sharing with South Korea.According to a report by the prominent Malaysian media outlet The Star on June 15, the two countries are expanding beyond mere equipment sales to implement a comprehensive collaboration that includes transferring South Korea’s advanced defence technologies—such as aerospace, cyber defence, and artificial intelligence (AI)—and co-developing the local industry. The following section explains the three core technology adoptions from South Korean defence enterprises highlighted by the Malaysian Ministry of Defence.

▲한국항공우주산업(KAI)의 전투기 유지보수·AI무인기 기술

말레이시아 공군은 오는 10월 한국산 FA-50M 경공격기 4대를 처음으로 인도받을 예정입니다. KAI는 말레이시아가 스스로 전투기를 정비하고 관리할 수 있도록 현지 유지보수(MRO) 시설과 기술을 전수하여 장기적인 자립을 돕기로 했습니다.

양국은 향후 군용기뿐만 아니라 메타버스 기반의 훈련시스템, 유인 전투기 1대가 AI무인기 3대를 동시에 지휘하는 'AI 가상 조종사' 시스템 도입까지 검토하고 있습니다.

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI): Aircraft Maintenance and AI Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Technology

The Royal Malaysian Air Force is scheduled to receive its initial shipment of four South Korean FA-50M light multirole fighter jets this upcoming October. KAI has agreed to transfer local Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities and techniques to allow Malaysia to establish its own independent aircraft maintenance capabilities over time.Beyond military aircraft, the two countries are also evaluating the introduction of metaverse-based training systems and the 'AI Virtual Pilot' system, which enables a single manned aircraft to command three AI UAVs simultaneously.

한화오션은 자체 개발한 가상현실 시뮬레이션 시스템을 활용해 선박제조에 필요한 용접, 도장 등의 숙련 기술을 안전하게 교육하는 인프라를 구축했습니다. 이 장비는 이동이 가능해 해외 현지 교육에도 쉽게 투입할 수 있습니다.

한화오션은 또 자체 개발한 로봇을 통해 사람이 하는 것보다 4배 빠른 자동화 용접 시스템을 가동 중이며, 리튬이온 배터리를 탑재해 3주 이상 잠항할 수 있는 장보고-III(KSS-III) 잠수함 기술과 자율운항 선박 기술도 고도화하고 있습니다.

Hanwha Ocean: Virtual Reality (VR) Training and Smart Shipyard Infrastructure

Hanwha Ocean has established an infrastructure to safely train personnel in technical operations such as welding and painting required for ship manufacturing by utilizing an in-house developed virtual reality (VR) simulation system. This equipment is portable, allowing it to be easily deployed for local training overseas.Furthermore, Hanwha Ocean operates an automated welding system using in-house developed robots that perform up to four times faster than manual welding. The company is also advancing its Jang Bogo-III (KSS-III) submarine technology, equipped with lithium-ion batteries that allow it to remain submerged for over three weeks, alongside autonomous vessel technologies.

HD현대중공업은 울산 조선소의 자재상황, 선박부품, 작업자의 안전상태를 실시간으로 모니터링하는 '디지털 트윈' 시스템을 도입해 스마트 조선소를 운영하고 있습니다. 

또 충돌위험을 줄이고 얕은 항구에서도 안전하게 배를 댈 수 있도록 돕는 AI 기반 이접안 지원 시스템을 개발했습니다.

HD현대중공업은 최근 말레이시아 루무트 해군조선소와 업무협약을 맺고, 말레이시아 해군사업 협력과 함께 단계적인 기술이전 프로그램을 통해 말레이시아가 스스로 군함을 건조할 수 있도록 지원할 계획입니다.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI): Digital Twin (Virtual Factory) and Intelligent Navigation Systems

HHI operates a smart shipyard by deploying a 'digital twin' system that monitors materials, vessel components, and worker safety conditions at its Ulsan shipyard in real time.The company has also engineered an AI-based berthing support system designed to reduce collision risks and help ships safely berth in unfamiliar or shallow ports. Recently, HHI entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lumut Naval Shipyard in Malaysia. Along with cooperating on Royal Malaysian Navy programs, the company plans to support Malaysia in achieving self-reliance in building naval vessels through a phased technology transfer program.
