[MIR Global Radar] Hyundai Rotem Partners with Vietnam's THACO to Manufacture Metro Trains and Foster Railway Localization

18일(현지시간) 베트남 브이앤익스프레스(VnExpress)에 따르면, 현대로템은 타코그룹에 철도차량 제조기술을 전수하고, 인력교육 및 기술지원을 제공해 베트남 국산화 유통망 구축을 돕는다.
이번 계약이 단순한 완제품 수출을 넘어, 급성장하는 동남아시아 철도 인프라 마켓에서 한국기술 중심의 장기적인 수익기반을 다지기 위한 포석으로 분석된다.

Hyundai Rotem, a railway vehicle manufacturing affiliate of South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group, is partnering with THACO Group, Vietnam's largest automotive and manufacturing conglomerate, to transfer technology for the local production of Ho Chi Minh City metro trains and core equipment.
According to Vietnam's VnExpress on June 18 (local time), Hyundai Rotem will transfer railway vehicle manufacturing technology, provide personnel training, and offer technical support to help THACO Group establish a localized supply network in Vietnam. 
Analysts evaluate this contract as a strategic move to establish a long-term revenue foundation centered on South Korean technology in the fast-growing Southeast Asian railway infrastructure market, moving beyond mere finished product exports.

▲320만㎡ 규모 철도 산업단지 조성…이르면 2027년 4월 첫 전동차 생산
타코그룹의 부동산·인프라 개발 자회사인 다이꽝민의 발표에 따르면, 양사는 철도장비 제조를 내재화하기 위한 대규모 공장건설에 돌입한다.
타코그룹은 오는 7월 초 빈즈엉지역에 320헥타르(약 320만㎡ / 96만 평) 규모의 '철도 및 다목적 기계 산업단지'를 착공한다. 이 복합단지 내부에는 현대로템의 기술력이 수혈될 기관차 및 객차 제조공장을 비롯해 지하철 터널을 파는 대형 장비, 선로 받침대 등 철도 소부장 핵심 부품공장이 패키지로 들어선다.
신설 공장의 실전 가동 및 첫 제품출하 시기는 2027년 4월로 확정됐다.
이곳에서 생산되는 전동차와 기계들은 유럽의 선진기술 표준 및 품질 방어선 규격을 기반으로 제작될 예정이다.

Establishing a 3.2 Million Square Meter Railway Industrial Complex: Commencing First Train Production as Early as April 2027
According to an announcement by Dai Quang Minh, the real estate and infrastructure development subsidiary of THACO Group, the two companies are entering large-scale factory construction to internalize railway equipment manufacturing.
THACO Group will break ground on a 320-hectare (approximately 3.2 million square meters) 'Railway and Multi-Purpose Machinery Industrial Complex' in the Binh Duong region in early July. 
Inside this multi-purpose complex, locomotive and passenger car manufacturing factories integrated with Hyundai Rotem's technology will be established, alongside a package of core component factories for railway materials, components, and equipment, including large-scale tunnel boring machines and railway sleepers. 
The actual operation of the new factory and its first product shipment timeline have been finalized for April 2027. The trains and machinery produced at this site are scheduled to be manufactured based on advanced European technology standards and quality assurance specifications.

이번에 생산되는 현대로템기술 기반의 열차들은 타코그룹이 투자자이자 총괄 건설사로 참여하는 호치민 핵심 메트로노선에 최우선 조달된다. 
현재 타코그룹은 호치민 벤탄-탐피앙 노선의 시공을 맡고 있으며, 벤탄-투티엠 노선의 지분투자를 완료한 상태다. 여기에 투티엠-롱탄 신공항 연결 노선까지 제안 중이다.
이 세 노선이 합쳐지면 호치민 북서쪽 관문과 신공항을 직결하는 총연장 65km 규모의 거대 철도축이 완성된다. 호치민 도시철도관리국은 "도시철도망 확충에서 가장 중요한 것은 기술자립과 국산화 비율을 높이는 것"이라며 한국 진영과 협력을 환영했다.
호치민시는 오는 2030년까지 메트로 총연장을 200km로 늘릴 계획이며, 장기 계획상 도시철도망 규모가 1000km에 달하는 만큼 현대로템의 현지 기술 이전 포석은 향후 부품 장기조달 수입구조를 정착시키는 결정적 계기가 될 전망이다.

Targeting a Total Extension of 65km Metro Lines: Selected as the Core Partner for Vietnam's Localization Policy
The trains manufactured based on Hyundai Rotem's technology will be prioritized for procurement across core Ho Chi Minh City metro lines where THACO Group participates as an investor and general contractor.
Currently, THACO Group is in charge of constructing the Ho Chi Minh City Ben Thanh-Tham Luong line and has finalized its equity investment in the Ben Thanh-Thu Thiem line. 
Furthermore, it is proposing participation in the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh New Airport connection line. When these three lines are combined, a massive railway axis with a total extension of 65km directly connecting the northwestern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City with the new airport will be completed. 
The Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) welcomed the cooperation with the South Korean entity, stating, "The most important goals in developing the urban railway network are achieving technology self-reliance and increasing the localization ratio." 
Ho Chi Minh City plans to increase its total metro extension to 200km by 2030, and since the urban railway network is planned to reach a scale of 1000km under long-term blueprints, Hyundai Rotem's local technology transfer strategy is projected to serve as a decisive catalyst to establish a long-term component procurement revenue structure.
