미국 지역매체 테일러프레스는 최근 이슈마엘 해리스 배스트롭 시장과 실비아 카리요트레비노 시 행정책임자, 게리 블레이크 경제개발공사 의장은 10월 12~17일 한국을 방문해 기업 관계자들을 만났다.

대표단은 LG CNS와 한국기업의 미국 진출을 지원하는 ‘K-브리지’ 구상을 논의했다. 차바이오그룹·오가노이드사이언스와는 의료 연구 및 지역병원 구상을 놓고 의견을 나눴으며, 서연이화와 모듈러 건축기업 플랜엠도 방문했다.

Bastrop, Texas, is reaching out to South Korean companies as it explores opportunities across manufacturing, healthcare and modular construction. The initiative comes as Samsung’s semiconductor investment in nearby Taylor draws Korean businesses to the wider region.

According to an October 23 report by the Taylor Press, Bastrop Mayor Ishmael Harris, City Manager Sylvia Carrillo-Trevino and Economic Development Corporation Chairman Gary Blake visited South Korea from October 12 to 17 to meet business leaders.

The delegation discussed LG CNS’s K-Bridge initiative to help Korean companies explore the US market. It also met CHA Biogroup and OrganoidSciences to discuss medical research and Bastrop’s vision for a regional hospital, and visited Seoyon E-Hwa and modular construction company Plan M.

이번 방문에서 논의된 분야는 제조업 기반 확충과 함께 도시 성장에 필요한 의료·건설 서비스까지 아우른다.

Citing a social media post by Harris, the Taylor Press reported that the delegation met LG CNS to discuss its K-Bridge initiative, which aims to help Korean companies explore opportunities in the United States. Bastrop, Killeen and Henderson were identified as Texas cities being considered for potential business opportunities.

The delegation also met CHA Biogroup and OrganoidSciences to discuss medical research and Bastrop’s vision for a regional hospital. It visited Seoyon E-Hwa, which operates an automotive parts facility in nearby Hutto, and toured modular construction company Plan M.

The discussions spanned both industrial development and services that could support the city’s growth.

삼성전자가 2021년 테일러 반도체공장 건설을 발표한 이후 인근 윌리엄슨카운티로 한국기업들이 진출하면서 주변 지방정부들도 아시아 기업과의 관계 확대를 추진하고 있다는 게 현지 매체의 설명이다.

배스트롭 역시 이런 흐름 속에서 기업 관계자들과 직접 만나 입지와 협력 가능성을 알리는 데 나섰다. 해리스 시장은 한국 방문과 관련해 상황을 지켜보기보다 직접 만나 질문하고 준비하겠다는 취지를 밝혔다.

대표단과 만난 한 기업 관계자는 11월 오스틴에서 열리는 행사 참석을 계기로 배스트롭을 방문하는 데 관심을 보였다고 현지 매체는 전했다.

Bastrop’s outreach comes amid the expansion of Korean business networks in central Texas.

The Taylor Press reported that Korean companies have been moving into neighbouring Williamson County since Samsung announced its Taylor semiconductor plant in 2021. Other nearby cities and local governments have also sought stronger business relationships with Asian companies.

Bastrop’s delegation used its visit to meet company representatives directly and explore the city’s potential as a business location. Harris framed the trip as an effort to ask questions and prepare for opportunities rather than watch developments from the sidelines.

One company representative expressed interest in visiting Bastrop while attending a conference in Austin in November, according to the report.

해리스 시장은 이번 면담을 관계를 쌓고 사업 가능성을 탐색하기 위한 과정으로 설명했다.

배스트롭시는 향후 제안이 들어오면 기반시설과 상하수도, 교통, 환경, 지역 고용 등에 미칠 영향을 검토한다는 방침이다. 기업 유치를 도시의 수용 능력 및 주민 생활과 연결해 판단하겠다는 의미다.

해리스 시장은 지역 상인과 기존 사업자들이 도시 발전의 근간이라는 점도 강조했다. 외부 기업과의 협력 기회를 찾는 동시에 지역경제와 도시의 역사·특성을 지키며 성장에 대비하겠다는 구상이다.

Harris described the meetings as an effort to build relationships and explore possibilities.

Any future proposals would be reviewed for their effects on infrastructure, water and wastewater services, transportation, the environment and local employment.

The approach connects business recruitment with the city’s capacity to accommodate growth and the needs of its residents.

Harris also emphasised the importance of existing local merchants and contractors, describing them as the backbone of development. Bastrop’s objective is to prepare for expansion while protecting its history and character.
