[미디어펜=편집국] LG에너지솔루션이 에스토니아에서 건설되는 420메가와트시(MWh) 규모의 대형 배터리에너지저장장치(BESS)에 배터리 저장장비를 공급한다.
24일 핀란드 재생에너지 투자회사 탈레리 에너지아(Taaleri Energia)와 에스토니아 재생에너지 개발업체 이브콘(Evecon)에 따르면 에스토니아 남부에 건설되는 ‘라우드세파 BESS(Raudsepa BESS)’ 프로젝트가 최종투자결정(FID)을 마치고 건설 단계에 들어갔다.
라우드세파 BESS는 출력 192메가와트(MW), 저장용량 420MWh 규모다. 에스토니아 제2도시 타르투(Tartu)에서 남쪽으로 약 50㎞ 떨어진 치르굴리나(Tsirguliina) 고압변전소 인근에 들어선다.
프로젝트에는 LG에너지솔루션의 배터리 저장장비가 적용된다. 인버터는 파워 일렉트로닉스(Power Electronics)가 유럽에서 생산한 제품을 사용한다.
건설은 이달 시작되며 2027년 11월 완전 가동이 목표다.
LG Energy Solution will supply battery storage equipment for a 420 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project under construction in Estonia.
According to Finnish renewable energy investor Taaleri Energia and Estonian renewable energy developer Evecon, the Raudsepa BESS project in southern Estonia has reached a final investment decision and entered the construction phase.
The project will have a power capacity of 192 MW and an energy storage capacity of 420 MWh. It will be located near the Tsirguliina high-voltage substation, approximately 50 kilometers south of Tartu, Estonia’s second-largest city.
The facility will use battery storage equipment supplied by LG Energy Solution, along with European-made inverters from Power Electronics.
Construction is scheduled to begin this month, with the BESS expected to be fully operational by November 2027.

라우드세파 프로젝트는 이브콘과 프랑스 독립발전사업자 코르시카 솔(Corsica Sole)이 공동 개발했다.
개발을 마친 프로젝트는 탈레리 에너지아의 솔라윈드 III 펀드(SolarWind III Fund)와 공동투자자, KJK캐피털(KJK Capital)이 운용하는 KJK펀드 III가 공동 소유한다.
에스토니아 에너지 인프라 업체 스마트콘(Smartecon)은 설계부터 장비 공급, 건설, 시운전까지 담당하는 턴키 방식으로 프로젝트를 수행한다. 330킬로볼트(kV) 변전소 건설도 사업 범위에 포함된다.
탈레리에 따르면 BESS는 전력 가격이 낮을 때 전기를 저장했다가 가격이 높은 시간대에 공급하는 전력 차익거래와 전력망 안정화를 위한 보조서비스 시장에 동시에 참여한다.
에스토니아가 재생에너지 비중을 확대하면서 발생할 수 있는 전력 생산량 변동을 대규모 배터리로 흡수하는 구조다.
탈레리 측은 높은 전력가격 변동성과 석유 기반 발전의 단계적 퇴출이 에스토니아 배터리 저장시장에 새로운 투자 기회를 만들고 있다고 설명했다.
The Raudsepa project was jointly developed by Evecon and French independent power producer Corsica Sole.
Following development, the project is jointly owned by Taaleri Energia’s SolarWind III Fund, a co-investor in the fund and KJK Fund III, managed by KJK Capital.
Estonian energy infrastructure company Smartecon will deliver the facility on a turnkey basis, covering engineering, equipment supply, construction and commissioning. Its scope also includes construction of a 330 kV substation.
According to Taaleri, the BESS will pursue a multi-market optimization strategy, generating revenue from both electricity arbitrage and ancillary services.
The system is designed to store electricity when market conditions are favorable and release it when demand and electricity values are higher, while also helping stabilize the power grid.
Taaleri said high power-price volatility and Estonia’s gradual phase-out of oil-fired generation are creating attractive conditions for battery-storage investment.
완공되면 북유럽·발트 최대…LG엔솔 유럽 ESS 확대
프로젝트 규모도 주목된다.
KJK캐피털은 라우드세파 BESS가 가동되면 북유럽과 발트 지역 전체에서 가장 큰 BESS가 될 것으로 전망했다.
탈레리 에너지아 입장에서도 이번 사업은 솔라윈드 III 펀드가 에스토니아에서 투자하는 첫 BESS 프로젝트다. 탈레리 에너지아의 발트 3국 전체 투자로는 다섯 번째다.
LG에너지솔루션으로서는 유럽의 대규모 전력망용 ESS 시장에서 배터리 공급 실적을 추가하게 됐다.
특히 유럽은 태양광·풍력 등 재생에너지 발전 비중이 높아지면서 발전량 변동을 조절할 대규모 저장장치의 중요성이 커지고 있다.
라우드세파는 단순히 배터리를 설치하는 프로젝트가 아니라 330kV급 변전소와 연결돼 전력 차익거래와 계통 안정화 서비스를 동시에 수행하는 대규모 전력 인프라 사업이다.
LG에너지솔루션이 전기차용 배터리를 넘어 전력망용 ESS 시장을 새로운 성장축으로 확대하는 가운데, 이번 에스토니아 프로젝트는 유럽 BESS 시장에서 공급 기반을 넓히는 사례가 될 것으로 보인다.
The scale of the Raudsepa project is also notable.
KJK Capital said that once operational, Raudsepa is expected to become the largest BESS across the Nordic and Baltic region.
For Taaleri Energia, the investment represents the SolarWind III Fund’s first battery storage project in Estonia and Taaleri Energia’s fifth investment in the Baltic countries.
For LG Energy Solution, the project adds another large-scale battery deployment in Europe’s rapidly expanding grid-scale energy storage market.
As Europe increases the share of intermittent renewable sources such as solar and wind, large battery systems are becoming increasingly important for balancing electricity supply and demand.
Raudsepa is more than a standalone battery installation. Connected through a 330 kV substation, the project is designed to participate in electricity trading while simultaneously providing services that support grid stability.
As LG Energy Solution expands beyond electric-vehicle batteries and develops energy storage as another growth pillar, the Estonian project provides another foothold in Europe’s utility-scale BESS market.
