[Mir’s Global Radar]GDK Cosmetics Partners with Brazilian Pharmaceutical Company to Tap K-Beauty Pharmacy Market
Korean cosmetics manufacturer GDK Cosmetics is joining forces with Brazilian pharmaceutical company Cimed to enter Brazil's skincare market. Under the partnership, products will be developed and manufactured in South Korea, while Cimed will distribute them through its domestic pharmacy network. The arrangement highlights an emerging model for K-beauty exports in which Korean manufacturers supply products for locally owned brands rather than relying solely on exports of their own branded products.
According to a report published by Brazilian business outlet Exame on October 12, Cimed is launching a skincare brand called Mili in cooperation with GDK Cosmetics. Cimed plans to invest 80 million Brazilian reais in the brand and its distribution and has set an initial sales target of 150 million reais.
The 80 million reais represents Cimed's planned investment in the brand, not the value of a supply contract awarded to GDK Cosmetics. The Korean manufacturer's actual contract value has not been disclosed.
Brazilian pharmaceutical company turns to Korean manufacturing expertise
Mili is a skincare brand designed for Brazilian consumers, with its initial lineup of seven products to be manufactured in South Korea. Cimed will handle sales and distribution in Brazil.
Cimed CEO João Adibe has described the initiative as more than a simple import arrangement. The company aims to develop products tailored to Brazilian consumers and regulatory requirements using Korean manufacturing expertise.
According to local reports, Cimed reviewed manufacturers across several Asian markets, including South Korea, China, Taiwan and Japan, before pursuing cooperation with the Korean company. The partnership illustrates how Korean cosmetics manufacturers are attracting overseas partners not only through the popularity of K-beauty brands but also through their product development and production capabilities.
However, the duration and volume of the supply agreement, as well as its potential contribution to GDK Cosmetics' revenue, have not been disclosed.
Targeting 10,000 retail outlets through Brazil's pharmacy network
Cimed plans to expand Mili's presence by leveraging its established pharmacy distribution network in Brazil.
According to Exame, the company intends to generate approximately 80% of Mili's sales through pharmacies. It has begun importing its initial shipments and aims to reach 10,000 retail outlets by the end of 2026.
The figure represents a distribution target rather than the number of stores where the products are already available. Local media reports also differ on the timing of the consumer launch, which requires further confirmation.
Cimed intends to expand the product lineup beyond the initial seven items. For Korean manufacturers, the model offers access to Brazilian consumers without requiring them to build their own local distribution networks.
K-beauty exports evolve from Korean brands to local-brand manufacturing
The growing popularity of Korean cosmetics in Brazil provides an important backdrop to the partnership.
According to Korean customs data cited by Exame, Brazil imported $54.36 million worth of South Korean cosmetics in 2025, up 951% from the previous year. The exceptionally high growth rate should also be assessed in light of the relatively small base in the preceding year.
What distinguishes the Cimed–GDK Cosmetics partnership is that the Brazilian company is not merely importing and reselling an existing Korean brand. Instead, it is relying on a Korean manufacturer to develop and produce products for its own brand.
Under this model, the Korean company provides product development and manufacturing capabilities, while the local partner manages branding and distribution. If such arrangements become more widespread, they could create additional export opportunities for small and medium-sized Korean cosmetics manufacturers that lack strong international brand recognition.
That potential, however, does not guarantee commercial success. Actual sales performance, follow-on supply agreements and profitability for the Korean manufacturer remain to be seen.
