[Mir’s Global Radar]Three Korean Startups Expand Business in Japan Through Jewelry Sales, eSIM Integration and AI Robotics
Three South Korean startups are expanding their business activities in Japan through partnerships involving product sales, telecommunications service integration and artificial intelligence technology testing.
According to a recent report by KoreaTechDesk, Japanese venture capital firm BIG Impact is supporting commercial collaborations between Korean startups Amondz Lab, Baycon and Studio Lab and their Japanese business partners.
David Seungho Bae, a board member of BIG Impact, told the publication that the three companies are at different stages of commercial development, including a sales agreement, platform integration and a proof of concept.
Although the startups operate in different industries, their partnerships share a common approach: using existing Japanese distribution channels, service platforms and e-commerce operations to develop new business opportunities.
Amondz Lab Secures Sales Agreement With TOPICO
Amondz Lab, the Korean company behind jewelry commerce platform amondz, has secured a sales agreement with Japanese company TOPICO, with local sales scheduled to begin in November 2026.
According to BIG Impact board member David Seungho Bae, the agreement provides Amondz Lab with a new opportunity to sell its products in Japan.
TOPICO operates a creator-marketing platform connecting businesses with content creators who produce promotional videos. It is also a portfolio company of the Hyogo Kobe Startup Fund managed by BIG Impact.
The partnership illustrates how a Japanese venture capital firm's existing portfolio network can support the commercial expansion of a Korean startup.
Amondz Lab has already been developing its Japanese consumer base through physical retail activities, including a pop-up store at Lumine Shinjuku in Tokyo from October 22 to 28.
The TOPICO agreement adds another local business channel to those existing activities.
Baycon Works to Integrate eSIM Services Into Japanese Travel Platform
Korean telecommunications technology startup Baycon is working to integrate its eSIM connectivity service into AI Travel, a corporate travel-management platform operated by Japanese company Transfer Data.
AI Travel supports business-trip bookings, approvals and related administrative procedures. Transfer Data expanded the platform in May 2026 by introducing an AI-assisted travel-booking feature.
The planned integration would allow corporate travelers to access mobile connectivity services through an existing travel-management platform.
Baycon has already established business relationships in Japan, including a telecommunications-service agreement with Kobe City.
Its collaboration with Transfer Data represents an expansion of its Japanese business activities into corporate travel technology.
Transfer Data is also a portfolio company of BIG Impact's Hyogo Kobe Startup Fund, demonstrating how existing Japanese platforms can provide additional business opportunities for Korean technology companies.
Studio Lab Tests AI-Powered Robotics in Japanese E-Commerce
Studio Lab, a Korean startup specializing in AI-powered commerce content technology, is conducting a proof of concept with Yukon Sky, an e-commerce development and operations company based in Kobe, Japan.
Studio Lab combines robotics and generative AI to automate product photography and digital content production, particularly for fashion brands and online retailers.
The project is evaluating how the technology performs within Japanese e-commerce operations, including production efficiency, image consistency and compatibility with existing workflows.
Japan's expanding e-commerce market provides a potential commercial opportunity for such technology.
According to Japanese government figures cited by KoreaTechDesk, Japan's business-to-consumer e-commerce market reached 27.56 trillion yen in 2025, up 5.5% from the previous year.
Through the pilot project, Studio Lab is assessing the practical application of its technology in Japan and exploring opportunities for future commercial deployment.
Japanese Venture Capital Network Supports Cross-Border Business Expansion
Japanese venture capital firm BIG Impact serves as a common link between the three Korean startups and their Japanese business partners.
Headquartered in Tokyo, BIG Impact uses its investment and business networks, particularly in Japan's Kansai region, to connect Korean startups with established Japanese companies.
In April 2026, the firm announced the first closing of its K2 Fund, targeting total capital of 3 billion to 5 billion yen.
The fund supports investment and cross-border business opportunities involving startups from markets including South Korea and Taiwan.
BIG Impact is pursuing two approaches to its Korean business activities: direct investment in startups and commercial partnerships through its existing portfolio companies and investor network.
The firm has also scheduled a visit to Seoul from October 28 to 30 with representatives of its investors and portfolio companies to explore additional investment and business opportunities.
The three Korean startups represent different stages of commercial expansion.
Amondz Lab has secured a sales agreement, Baycon is working on service integration, and Studio Lab is testing its technology in a Japanese business environment.
Together, their activities illustrate how Korean startups are developing commercial opportunities in Japan through partnerships with local companies.
