[MIR's Business Made Easy]Why Craver Sells Both Its Own SKIN1004 Products and Other Korean Beauty Brands
South Korean beauty company Craver Corporation operates an unusual business model. It develops its own skincare brand, SKIN1004, while also distributing cosmetics produced by other companies to overseas markets.
Rather than focusing exclusively on its proprietary products, Craver combines brand development with global distribution.
The company reported approximately KRW 664.5 billion in standalone revenue and KRW 164.5 billion in operating profit for 2025. Revenue has increased more than eightfold from 2023.
Its business illustrates how companies can capture value from the global growth of Korean beauty products not only through brand ownership but also through distribution networks connecting manufacturers, retailers and consumers.
From Cosmetics Distribution to Brand Ownership
Craver began as a cosmetics distribution business rather than a traditional beauty manufacturer.
Founded in 2014 under the name B2LINK, the company initially focused on connecting Korean beauty products with overseas markets.
Its business expanded significantly in 2016 when it acquired SKIN1004, a skincare brand known for products featuring Madagascar centella ingredients.
The acquisition allowed Craver to move beyond distributing products made by other companies and develop its own brand portfolio.
The company's standalone revenue increased from KRW 79.8 billion in 2023 to KRW 303.4 billion in 2024 and KRW 664.5 billion in 2025.
Operating profit rose from approximately KRW 10.7 billion to KRW 70.1 billion and then KRW 164.5 billion over the same period.
Craver's growth reflects the expansion of its proprietary beauty business. At the same time, its experience in overseas sales has created opportunities to support the distribution of other Korean beauty brands.
UMMA: Selling Products from Other Beauty Brands
Another pillar of Craver's business is UMMA, its business-to-business platform for Korean beauty products.
Unlike consumer-oriented online shopping malls, UMMA connects Korean cosmetics suppliers with overseas retailers and wholesale buyers.
International distributors need access to products, ordering systems, inventory management and logistics services to sell Korean cosmetics in their markets.
UMMA helps facilitate these transactions.
Craver therefore operates two complementary businesses: developing and selling its proprietary SKIN1004 products, and supporting the international distribution of products from other Korean beauty brands.
The model gives the company opportunities to generate sales from both its own brand portfolio and the broader growth of Korean cosmetics overseas.
For smaller beauty brands, an established distribution network can reduce the complexity of entering international markets.
For Craver, adding more brands to its distribution operations can increase the volume of products handled through existing sales and logistics channels.
However, proprietary brand sales and third-party distribution have different economics. Brand ownership involves product development, marketing and brand value, while distribution depends heavily on sourcing, sales execution and operational efficiency.
The Competitive Advantage of Combining Brands and Distribution
Craver is expanding its international distribution business alongside its proprietary beauty brands.
The company can apply the market knowledge, retailer relationships and logistics experience developed through its own products to the distribution of other Korean cosmetics.
This reflects a broader change in the K-beauty industry.
Competition is no longer limited to developing popular products. Companies also need efficient ways to reach consumers through overseas retailers, e-commerce platforms and distribution partners.
Craver participates in both parts of the value chain as a brand owner and an international distributor.
In its proprietary brand business, product demand, marketing and brand positioning are central to profitability.
In third-party distribution, the number of brands handled, transaction volume and operating efficiency become increasingly important.
Combining the two businesses creates opportunities to use existing international relationships more effectively.
The financial contribution of the distribution business will ultimately depend on its actual revenue profitability and operating performance.
Craver's model nevertheless illustrates an important development in the global Korean beauty industry: companies can pursue growth not only by creating successful products but also by building the networks that bring those products to international consumers.
