5일 ST엔지니어링 아이디렉트의 발표에 따르면 이 회사는 지난 4일 KT SAT가 주도하는 컨소시엄의 일원으로, 우리 정부의 해상 위성통신망 고도화 사업에 선정됐다고 밝혔다.

이 사업은 기존 Ku밴드 위성통신망을 개선하면서 차세대 Ka밴드 통신망을 새롭게 구축하는 프로젝트다. 기존 통신서비스를 유지하면서 신규 시스템으로 단계적으로 전환하는 것이 핵심이다.

컨소시엄에는 KT SAT와 인텔리안테크 외에 ST엔지니어링 아이디렉트, 시스템 통합업체 왈도가 참여한다.

KT SAT and Intellian are participating in a South Korean government project to modernize maritime satellite communications, according to an announcement by US-based satellite technology provider ST Engineering iDirect on November 4.

KT SAT will serve as the lead contractor and consortium leader, overseeing the deployment and integration of the system. Intellian will provide antenna systems, while ST Engineering iDirect will supply satellite ground technology and Waldo will handle local integration.

The project involves upgrading the existing Ku-band satellite communications network and establishing a new Ka-band system, with two geographically separated ground hubs designed to improve network resilience.

ST엔지니어링 아이디렉트가 공개한 사업구조에 따르면 KT SAT는 위성통신 서비스와 사업 수행 경험을 바탕으로 정부의 해상 통신 요구사항에 맞는 시스템을 구축한다.

인텔리안테크는 선박 등 해상 환경에서 위성통신에 사용되는 안테나 시스템을 담당한다. ST엔지니어링 아이디렉트는 위성 지상국 시스템과 통신망 관리 기술을 공급하며, 왈도는 현지 시스템 통합 업무를 맡는다.

박현배 KT SAT 부사장은 이번 사업에서 KT SAT가 주계약자이자 컨소시엄 주관사로, 전체 시스템 구축과 통합을 책임진다고 설명했다.

또 KT SAT의 위성통신 및 정부사업 수행 경험과 해외 업체의 지상국 기술을 결합해 안정적인 해상 통신체계를 구축하겠다는 방침을 밝혔다.

이 사업은 국내 기업이 사업을 총괄하면서 위성 안테나, 지상국 장비, 시스템 통합 등 전문 분야별 기술을 결합하는 방식으로 추진된다.

KT SAT will act as the prime contractor and consortium leader, taking responsibility for the overall deployment and integration of the government's maritime satellite communications system.

Intellian will provide antenna systems, ST Engineering iDirect will supply satellite ground infrastructure and network management technology, and Waldo will contribute local integration capabilities.

Hyunbae Park, Executive Vice President of KT SAT, said the company would oversee end-to-end deployment and integration to meet the government's operational requirements.

The consortium combines South Korean satellite service and antenna expertise with specialized international ground-system technology.

이 프로젝트의 핵심은 기존 위성통신망을 유지하면서 새로운 통신체계를 구축하는 데 있다.

현재 운영 중인 아이디렉트 기반 Ku밴드 통신환경을 개선하고 차세대 Ka밴드 위성통신 시스템을 추가한다.

Ku밴드와 Ka밴드는 서로 다른 주파수 대역을 사용하는 위성통신 방식이다. 사업 수행 기업들은 두 통신환경에 공통 지상국 기술을 적용해 기존 시스템에서 새로운 시스템으로 단계적으로 전환할 계획이다.

특히 지리적으로 떨어진 두 곳에 지상 허브를 구축한다. 한 지역의 통신시설에 문제가 발생하더라도 전체 통신망의 운영 중단 위험을 줄이기 위한 설계다.

지상국 시스템에는 통신망 상태를 확인하는 모니터링 기능과 중앙집중식 네트워크 관리 기능도 적용된다.

이를 통해 운영자는 위성통신망의 성능과 가용성을 관리하고 민감한 정부 통신의 보안 수준을 높일 수 있다.

The project will upgrade the government's existing iDirect-based Ku-band infrastructure while establishing a next-generation Ka-band satellite communications system.

The consortium plans to use a common ground technology platform across both environments, allowing a phased transition without immediately replacing the existing network.

Two geographically separated ground hubs will be deployed to improve network availability and reduce the risk of service interruptions.

The system will also incorporate centralized network management, advanced monitoring and security capabilities to support government maritime operations.

ST엔지니어링 아이디렉트는 지상국과 네트워크 관리 기술을 제공한다. 각 기업의 기술을 결합해 기존 통신망을 개선하면서 신규 주파수 대역을 도입하는 구조다.

ST엔지니어링 아이디렉트는 이번 사업이 동남아시아와 유럽에서 수행한 정부·해상 통신 프로젝트 경험을 기반으로 한다고 설명했다.

이번에 공개된 자료에는 국내 정부의 구체적인 발주기관명과 계약금액, 사업 완료 일정은 포함되지 않았다.
