[Mir's Global Radar] South Korea's SOOSUNG and SUNJIN Win Consultancy Award for Pakistan's 141-Kilometer N-5 Highway Reconstruction

Two South Korean engineering companies, SOOSUNG Engineering and SUNJIN Engineering & Architecture, have been named as members of the winning consortium for design review and construction supervision services on Pakistan's National Highway N-5 reconstruction project.

According to a contract award notice published by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the international consortium including the two Korean firms was selected to provide consultancy services for the widening and improvement of three priority sections of the N-5 highway, covering a combined 141 kilometers.

The consultancy forms part of Pakistan's broader national highway reconstruction initiative, supported by an approved $500 million financing package from the AIIB.
The participation of Korean firms is notable because their role extends beyond construction and equipment supply to the review of engineering designs and supervision of construction quality.

Korean Engineering Firms Join Reconstruction of Pakistan's Key Logistics Corridor

According to the AIIB's contract award notice, the consultancy covers three sections of Pakistan's National Highway N-5.

The first is the 70-kilometer Ranipur–Sukkur section in Sindh Province. The second covers 40 kilometers between Rawalpindi and Hassanabdal, while the third spans 31 kilometers from Nowshera to Peshawar. Together, the sections total 141 kilometers.

The N-5 is a major transport corridor linking Pakistan's cities, industrial centers and logistics hubs. Improving traffic capacity and road safety is therefore a central objective of the reconstruction program.

AIIB project documents indicate that Pakistan plans to widen existing four-lane sections into six-lane roads while strengthening resilience against climate risks, including flooding and extreme heat.

The consortium including SOOSUNG and SUNJIN has been named to undertake design review and construction supervision services for these improvements.

The contract award notice was published on September 18, 2026.

SOOSUNG and SUNJIN Named in International Consortium

The AIIB's award notice identifies South Korea's SOOSUNG Engineering and SUNJIN Engineering & Architecture among the successful consortium members.

The consortium also includes Pakistani engineering firms such as Associated Consulting Engineers, Associated Consultancy Center, Zeeruk International and National Engineering Corporation.

The AIIB procurement listing states the contract price as $2,854,409 and 1,398,721,432 Pakistani rupees.

These amounts relate to the consortium contract. The notice does not separately identify the contract shares or revenues attributable to SOOSUNG and SUNJIN.

The contract signing date is also not specified in the AIIB listing.

The Korean companies are participating alongside local partners in an international engineering assignment covering design review and construction supervision.

Large infrastructure projects often procure specialized consultancy services separately from construction works, including design verification, project management, quality control and site supervision.

The award illustrates the participation of Korean engineering companies in this specialized segment of the overseas infrastructure market.

AIIB's $500 Million Financing Supports Climate-Resilient Infrastructure

The consultancy assignment is linked to Pakistan's wider program to reconstruct National Highway N-5.

The AIIB has approved $500 million in financing for the highway reconstruction project under Pakistan's resilient recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction framework.

The initiative aims not only to expand road capacity but also to improve resilience against natural disasters, strengthen transport efficiency and enhance road safety.

According to AIIB appraisal documents, average daily traffic on several N-5 sections exceeds 30,000 to 50,000 vehicles, with heavy trucks and buses accounting for a substantial share of road use.

The proposed improvements are therefore expected to support passenger mobility and freight transport along a corridor connecting Pakistan's inland economic centers with major logistics routes.

Following the devastating floods of 2022, Pakistan has placed greater emphasis on rebuilding roads and bridges to withstand future climate-related disruptions.

The N-5 project reflects that shift toward infrastructure designed for both transport efficiency and disaster resilience.

By participating in design review and construction supervision, Korean engineering firms have secured a role in a major internationally financed infrastructure project, highlighting opportunities for specialized engineering services in overseas road development.
